The LodgeThe beautiful lodge is the perfect introduction and final farewell to Northern Kachin State. Perched high above the Nam Lang River with glorious views of mountains and rice terraces, Malikha Lodge has been designed by world famous architect Jean Michel Gathy of Aman Resorts fame to create a feeling of luxury and seclusion in this wilderness setting. The resort's manicured lawns and exotic gardens are carefully landscaped to merge with pockets of old growth bamboo and jungle. Traditional style bungalows have been carefully placed to recreate a sense of idyllic village life in this open garden paradise.
LocationMalikha Lodge is situated in Northern Kachin State, Myanmar’s greenest and most remote state. Access to our lodge is a fifteen-minute drive from the small frontier town of Putao. Formally known as Fort Hertz, Putao was one of the British Empire's most remote outposts. During the Second World War, even the Japanese were unable to conquer this remote and isolated area. Today, Putao remains completely cut off from the outside world by millions of acres of subtropical rainforest and jagged peaks. The only reliable access is by flight into the Putao airstrip during the cool dry season from October to April. Home to a myriad of different cultures and religions, its reputation as a land of old style adventure and discovery is rivaled only by the warmness of its welcome.
ActivitiesDaytime activities range from short jungle treks to river diving, mountain biking, scenic raft trips and kayaking. For the more adventurous, Ayeyarwaddy Expeditions offers a range of multiday rafting and trekking excursions. Ayeyarwaddy Expeditions
AccomodationsThe focal point of Malikha Lodge is the main lodge, where guests come to gather around two blazing log fires for drinks, dining or just pure relaxation. Each bungalow is a spacious living area centered upon an enormous handcrafted teak bathtub. Placed discreetly amongst towering bamboo trees, one has the feeling of total privacy and relaxation. A custom made fireplace next to the bath completes the sense of indulgence and luxury, and also provides warmth for the private daybeds outside, where views of distant mountains can be enjoyed through the foliage.
